How would you feel if you found out that your blog has been breached? Some pictures have been deleted, original ingredients replaced with incorrect measurements? I don’t know about you, but for me it’s a personal offense because there lies my reputation. Reputation is the most fragile, most significant part of your being that once it’s violated by others your world will never be the same. As a blogger, you will be considered a fraud. No one will ever believe anything you say; doubts will loom, questions raised, and trust destroyed. It doesn’t matter how hard you work, it will all be in vain.
At first, I thought it was my mistake, so I let it slide. The first issue was the mango cake/cupcake. Then, it was the Quinoa Congee Soup. I swear I typed the quinoa as the first ingredient. I proofread what I typed by reading them one by one and comparing my notes since the last incident. I let it slide again.
My blog is my cooking book. I go back whenever I want to cook or bake something from one of my recipes. Today, I wanted to get the recipe for the Chocolate Fudge Cake. I made this cake many times before and followed the recipe to a tee without any problems. But today was entirely different. I baked it and I was shocked. I had to throw away what I made. What happened? Why is this not workable? That’s when I started to put the puzzle together and started questioning the series of events that had happened before.
I remember what Opinionated Man experienced about his followers kept getting dropped and they had to re-follow him again. It makes me wonder if the culprit lies within WordPress or if it’s a hacker. Why do I suspect WordPress? Because I blog for free and deleting content such as pictures will save them space on the web server. But replacing measurements? If Opinionated Man has issues and he is a paying customer, how much more for me? Maybe I’m insignificant because they don’t make money off my blog or is this simply a low-life hacker who loves to play games to people and enjoys making their lives miserable and I just happened to be a victim?
Cooking and baking is my passion and I love what I do and I am proud of it. I have worked really hard to ensure that everything I post on my blog is worthwhile. Violating this is too personal and I considered a criminal offense. You have no idea how furious I am! I have never been so angry in my entire existence.
To my readers, I appreciate any suggestions you can share with me on what to do to prevent this from happening again besides changing my password. If the culprit is within WordPress, then I don’t know if I can compete with them. I might just have to pull the plug and say goodbye. There goes one of my dreams…again. 😦
